Traveller Tip
Layer up! Start cold, warm up on the hike, then remove layers as the sun rises.

Paltuding Post was originally established as a checkpoint and base camp for sulphur miners working on Mount Ijen. Over time, it became the official entrance point for visitors and trekkers heading to the famous Ijen Crater (Kawah Ijen). Today, it serves as both a miner’s hub and a tourist entry station, preserving its role as the starting line of the Ijen journey.
Public Facilities
Paltuding provides essential facilities for visitors, including:
Parking area for cars, buses, and motorcycles.
Ticketing and entrance gate.
Public toilets and rest areas.
Small warungs (local food stalls) and souvenir shops.
Basic accommodation and camping options.
Information centre and security post.

Basecamp (Paltuding)

Generally good signal for most Indonesian providers (Telkomsel strongest).
On the Trek
---
Coverage is patchy, often weak or no signal in forested areas.
Crater Rim (Summit)
---
Intermittent – sometimes good enough for calls or quick messages, but unstable.
Inside the Crater
---
Usually no signal due to terrain and sulphur smoke.
Tip for Travellers
Don’t rely on internet or calls during the hike. Inform family or friends before trekking and use the ranger post for emergencies.
